Owen's Valley USA

16mm experimental documentary

Filmed by Paolo Davanzo and Lisa Marr, in conjunction with Farmlab, this black and white film explores the issues of water rights, land usage, and sustainability. It focuses on Owen's Valley, California, an area that has been hard hit ecologically due to Southern California's need for water. For the past several decades, Southern California has plundered water from Owens Valley in order to keep growing, much to the detriment of Owen's Valley ecology.

Paolo's interest in water rights and land usage began when he first moved to Los Angeles in 1998. Seeing communities surrounded by vast deserts, he began asking himself questions. Where did we get this water? Will our water sources be sustainable for future generations?

Owens Valley USA explores but does not answer these questions.
